Who Are We?
Megan is a recovering corporate lawyer who is now the director of international programs at a law school. She’s the primary writer and photographer for the blog. Chris is a computer scientist working in media, so serves as our CTO. We do have day jobs, so we aren’t among those lucky bloggers who travel full-time. But, for working stiffs, we think we do a pretty good job of getting out and exploring the world.
The family mantra is that one should try to have been to as many countries as one is years old. Megan has solid buffer (51 countries), and Chris is well on his way (35). That said, the purpose of this count isn’t to mindlessly collect countries as trophies. It is a statement of our intention to prioritize travel, adventure and exploration. Megan was raised in a family full of wanderlust, whereas Chris only really started traveling in his 30’s. But, by the time we met, we were both avid travelers. So, we hope anyone with even the slightest inclination to travel might get some inspiration here.
In terms of budget, I’d call us mid-range travelers. Every once in a while, we’ll splurge for something more luxurious. And we aren’t afraid of a hostel. But, in general – our approach falls somewhere in the middle. A balanced approach is what works for us, given the amount of time we travel and our budget. What we’ve found is that you don’t have to pay top dollar to have amazing experiences, and often paying top dollar removes you from some of the most authentic experiences. But sometimes, you do have to treat yo’self. So, our choice of destination, accommodation and activities usually reflects this high/low, middle-of-the-road approach.
What You’ll Find Here
Travel Planning: We hope to share some practical information that might help you plan your own trip. How do you choose a destination? How to you build an itinerary? How do you get around? Where do you stay? These kinds of things.
Food: Chris LOVES food. Megan does too, but it’s hard to compete with Chris’s passion on this subject. So, we’ll share all of our best finds. Chris is particularly fond of street food. But, whether it’s on the street or in a restaurant, we tend to seek out local specialties. Although, truthfully, there is some point on every trip where you just need pizza.
Photos: We’ll also share our photos. When I’m considering possible new destinations, I get very inspired by other blogger’s photos. For example, when I saw a picture of hot air balloons over Cappadocia, Turkey, I knew I had to go. It took a few years to pan out (and one very long night on a local bus with no bathroom). But, I made it!
Brooklyn and other US Destinations: Because we don’t travel internationally all the time, we’re constantly looking for a little adventure closer to home. We’re lucky to live in Brooklyn, where there is so much at our fingertips. We also travel regularly to Montana, DC, California and Louisiana to visit family. So, we’ll share all of these home-based adventures, too.
